I’m having a break after my first exam today and I’ve gotten distracted by planning my very first trip outside of Australia to South Korea.
I’ve recently started volunteering/working for an entertainment company as their Production Coordinator. This company actually focuses on bringing South Korean music artists to Australia for concerts (known as ‘Kpop’ music). There is surprisingly a huge fan base here in Australia and our team is going over for a holiday and to also assist our CEO with business. She’s currently there today meeting with some of the large entertainment companies, very exciting!
I was first introduced to the Korean culture through a television drama when my old housemates were watching Boy’s Over Flowers. The fascination by all grew into sleepless nights watching nonstop episodes of many Korean dramas. We also discovered most of the actors were actually musicians and thus I lived for a good 12 months with Kpop almost constantly blaring in the house! Certainly provided many hilarious moments dancing in the kitchen while struggling to sing along!
We will be staying in SK for the month of August mainly in Seoul and will spend time traveling around to Jeonju, Yeosu, Busan & JeJu Island.
So I’ve created a wish list of things I want to see when traveling with my group or when seeing my Korean friends.
Note:
I will post blogs about my trip and any exclusive Kpop opportunities I have because of my work in Korea(last year the team was special guests on Invincible Youth 2) who knows what we might get up to this year! So if interested please follow my blog 🙂
While staying in Seoul:
Gyeongbokgung, also known as Gyeongbokgung Palace or Gyeongbok Palace, is a royal palace located in northern Seoul, South Korea. First constructed in 1394 and reconstructed in 1867, it was the main and largest palace of the Five Grand Palaces built by the Joseon Dynasty.
Gyeongbokgung is also surrounded by beautiful grounds.
National Folk Museum of Korea is a national museum of South Korea, located within the grounds of the Gyeongbokgung Palace in Jongno-gu, Seoul, and uses replicas of historical objects to illustrate the history of traditional life of the Korean people.
It measures 236.7 m (777 ft) in height (from the base) and tops out at 479.7 m (1,574 ft) above sea level.
COEX Aquarium- My fascination with animals doesn’t stop at the zoo and seeing how things are done in South Korea will be interesting.
Not just limited to fish the Aquarium has Otters and Polar Bears.
Said to be the 10th Largest Zoo in the world with a sky lift to take you from one side to the other, bring your walking shoes!
I love my typical tourist attractions and Lotte World consists of the world’s largest indoor theme park (a Guinness World Record) which is open all year around, an outdoor amusement park called “Magic Island”, an artificial island inside a lake linked by monorail, shopping malls, a luxury hotel, a Korean folk museum, sports facilities, and movie theaters all in one place!
Lotte World is located in Sincheon-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul, South Korea.
Everland is South Korea’s largest theme park. With 8.6 million visitors, Everland ranked tenth in the world for amusement park attendance in 2007. Along with its main attractions, Everland also includes a zoo and a water park known as Caribbean Bay.
T-Express built in 2008 is South Korea’s highest, fastest, longest, steepest roller coaster. Also South Korea’s first wooden coaster.
It has world’s steepest wooden roller coaster record.
Outside of Seoul Jeonju, Busan, Yeosu, Jeju
Yeosu Expo’s theme, “The Living Ocean and Coast,” was divided into three sub-themes: Development and Preservation of the Ocean and Coast, New Resources Technology, and Creative Marine Activities. These sub-themes have been further developed into 6 thematic groups, namely, Climate & Environment, Marine Life, Marine Industry & Technology, Marine City and Marine Civilization, and Marine Arts, each of which are demonstrated in their respective sub-theme pavilions.
The Expo theme aims to help shed light on humankind’s knowledge and advancement of technology concerning the ocean and coast and identify ways to resolve challenges facing the ocean.
Jeonju Hanok Village is located in the city of Jeonju and overlaps Pungnam-dong and Gyo-dong. There are over 800 traditional Korean ‘hanok’ houses. While the rest of city has been industrialized, Hanok Maeul retains its historical charms and traditions.
It has been used as a filming site for many historical dramas and movies.
There is much to do on Jeju Island and it has incredible scenery. I’m told by my friends many people have honeymoons here.
Haeundae – Busan, Is probably the most famous beach in the country.
Woah.. Think thats enough for now if you got through this post.. I thank you!
If you have been to any of these places listed, or are planning a trip of your own please feel free to share any suggestions or experiences below ^.^/
